La Jolla Children's Pool
850 Coast Boulevard Map it.
The Children's Pool is a small beach partially protected by a seawall. This protective wall was donated by Ellen Browning Scripps in 1931. The original intention was to create a fully protected swimming area. Today the Harbor Seals have taken over the beach and access to the water from the Children's Pool is no longer available. This is still a beautiful area. You can walk out on the sea wall where you are surrounded by the ocean. The waves crash into the wall where you can experience all the sights, sounds, and the smell of the fresh ocean breeze. You can also go down on the beach to get a closer look at the Harbor Seals.
The Children's Pool, is within a short walk of the commercial area of the community of La Jolla. Grassy park areas can be found a short distance to the north and south. The lifeguard station still watches over several small beaches nearby including Wipeout Beach to the south and Shell Beach to the north. From these small beaches scuba divers can access the reefs just offshore.
Just below the lifeguard station as you go down the first set of stairs their are restrooms. The restrooms smell and the floor is not very clean. However, they are usable.
